Stephen Stern is a partner in Hyatt & Weber’s employment and commercial litigation practices.
In employment law, Stephen regularly advises businesses on strategic matters and issues that arise on a day-to-day basis. When litigation has been necessary, Stephen has defended employers against claims arising under Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, SOX, FLSA, NDAA, IRCA, and other similar statutes, and he has defended employers against various tort claims. Stephen also regularly advises companies and represents them in litigation on matters related to the protection of trade secrets and enforcing non-compete/non-solicitation agreements.
Stephen also frequently represents businesses in commercial/business disputes involving allegations of fraud, breach of contract, violations of fiduciary duties and other tortious conduct, and violations of various federal and state statutes. Recent examples include defending against a civil RICO claim, allegations of discriminatory lending practices under the Fair Housing Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and insurance coverage claims, as well as prosecuting a breach of construction contract claim and various tort and contract claims related to a real estate dispute.
Stephen is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. He has appeared before the EEOC, DOL, DOJ, and comparable state and local agencies, and he has litigated in federal and state courts around the country.
